Why “Be Wild, but Grounded”?
Be wild because over time, in adapting to social norms, expectations, and frameworks, we lose our primal, wild, true nature. We conform, sacrificing our brilliance, our individuality, and what makes us unique. What a loss for us and for the world! That’s why we say “Be wild.”
But grounded because we live in a material world that we must serve. As someone beautifully put it, “The purpose of life is to find your gift; the meaning of life is to give it away.” Strong foundations are the basis of everything. Groundedness and rootedness are prerequisites for the flourishing of the most beautiful canopies in the world. That’s why we add “but grounded.” The lion is rightly the king of animals, and this mat is the queen among mats.
Why Cork?0
Cork is a completely natural, renewable, and sustainable material. Its production does not involve cutting down or damaging trees, meaning it does no harm to nature, and it doesn’t require fertilizers or pesticides. Harvested directly from the tree, cork is entirely non-toxic, waterproof, and has excellent insulation properties. It is resistant to abrasion, impacts, water, and fire, making it a popular choice not only in yoga mats but also in design, architecture, winemaking, and more.
Practicing yoga on a cork mat is a unique experience. Its surface is naturally gentle and smooth, allowing for a seamless transition from pose to pose. Unlike mats that emphasize stickiness, cork offers a beautiful, natural touch. Additionally, cork contains suberin (a waxy substance) that makes it resistant to fire and water, so for an extra grip, you can lightly mist the surface of the mat. The natural cork surface absorbs excess moisture from sweating, so you don’t have to worry about slipping on a wet mat, and you won’t need an extra towel for your yoga practice.
Cork is an excellent natural insulator, hypoallergenic, and has natural antibacterial properties.
While cork already has an exceptional grip, ensuring its slip-resistance, you can enhance it further by moistening the mat or your hands before practice for complete stability.
Maintenance:
In addition to its antimicrobial properties, which make it highly resistant to bacteria and dirt, the mat can be wiped down with a damp, soft cloth when needed. For deeper cleaning, a mild cleaning solution can be used, but it should not contain oils, and it’s generally advised to avoid contact with greasy substances.
